Synopsis:

The Rotman School of Management is hosting the World Premiere of White Pines Pictures' Digital Tsunami: Big Tech, Big AI, Big Brother. This compelling documentary delves into the unsettling aspects of the digital age, addressing issues like social media addiction, surveillance capitalism, and the unchecked expansion of artificial intelligence. With insights from prominent figures such as Ron Deibert, Sherry Turkle, Zephyr Teachout, Daron Acemoglu, Douglas Rushkoff, Margrethe Vestager, and Paolo Granata, the film calls for urgent regulatory measures and reforms. Drawing upon cultural references and the media theories of Marshall McLuhan, Digital Tsunami encourages viewers to reconsider how the digital transformation is reshaping society and what actions are necessary to safeguard the future.

About the Speakers:

Fred Peabody is known for producing, writing, and directing the acclaimed documentaries All Governments Lie and The Corporate Coup D'etat, both of which premiered at significant film festivals and received widespread recognition. He has extensive experience in journalism and filmmaking, with notable accolades throughout his career.

Phillip Martin serves as Senior Investigative Reporter for GBH News and has been honored with numerous awards for his dedication to social justice journalism. His impactful work includes participation in award-winning projects and considerable academic credentials.

Paolo Granata is an Associate Professor at St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto, specializing in media ecology, ethics, and visual studies. His extensive academic background includes positions at prestigious institutions and a commitment to public engagement and teaching in these vital fields.
