Lezing met livemuziek - 'Muziek in de schaduw van de oorlog'

Info

Roma and Sinti created music in concentration camps during World War II, both under duress and in secret. They performed for the SS, as well as to comfort each other, draw strength, and preserve memories. Clandestine songs helped to remember the horrors and pass them on to future generations.

Jan Pieter shares poignant anecdotes and authentic music fragments that highlight the power of music during inhumane times. The lecture is musically accompanied by two talented musicians: Gyuszi on double bass and Tommie on violin, who bring the emotion and significance of this music to life.

This lecture serves as the opening for the exhibition 'Once We Were Birds', which tells the story of Roma and Sinti, their long history of exclusion and discrimination, while showcasing their rich culture. The exhibition will be on display until May 16 at the Nieuw Waldeck library.

Start Time: 20:00

Lecture Begins: 20:15

The doors will close at 20:15, and attendees are asked to arrive on time.
