Health without a Home: Rethinking Healthcare's Role in Homelessness

Info

The CCQ Clinical Society welcomes participants to its gathering in Nambour at the Nambour RSL in May, featuring the theme:

‘Health without a Home: Rethinking Healthcare’s Role in Homelessness’.

Summary:

Homelessness poses a significant challenge to community health, leading to increased instances of chronic illnesses, mental health issues, and preventable conditions among those affected. This issue creates barriers to accessing healthcare and perpetuates a cycle of poor health and homelessness.

The Clinical Society session aims to bring together healthcare professionals to develop collaborative strategies between clinicians, communities, and health systems to tackle homelessness effectively.

Participants from the Country to Coast QLD region will have the opportunity to:

✔ Enhance their understanding of the relationship between health and homelessness
✔ Exchange best practices to improve health outcomes
✔ Identify collaborative opportunities across sectors
✔ Foster equity-driven healthcare within their practices

Learning outcomes:

  1. Recognize the influence of equity on health outcomes in the region.
  2. Evaluate strategies grounded in evidence to enhance health for those facing homelessness.
  3. Discover ways to foster local collaborations to improve access and coordination of care.
  4. Examine the links between health, housing, and social services, advocating for a systems-based approach.
  5. Incorporate equity-focused principles in clinical practice, including the management of unconscious bias and patient engagement.
