This gathering is a segment of the One Dublin One Book 2025 initiative, an undertaking of Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and Dublin City Libraries.
As twilight descends, the vibrant pulse of the city continues. Acclaimed authors Sarah Gilmartin, Roisin Kiberd, and Thomas Morris will engage in a dialogue moderated by writer and editor James Hudson. They will explore how their literary works depict the essence of Dublin after dark, highlighting various aspects such as the intense realm of upscale hospitality, the lively pub culture, and the refuge seekers find in nocturnal spaces from the pressures of day-to-day life. The characters in their narratives often grapple with the desire to fit in and forge connections, despite frequently confronting feelings of isolation and disenchantment.
Sarah Gilmartin is a noted Irish author and arts journalist, with her short stories featured in publications like The Dublin Review and New Irish Writing. She achieved recognition by winning the Máirtín Crawford Short Story Award in 2020. Gilmartin's debut novel, Dinner Party (One, 2021), was nominated for several awards, while her subsequent work, Service (One, 2023), received accolades as a Waterstones Book of the Month. Currently, she serves as the writer-in-residence at Dublin City University for 2025.
Roisin Kiberd contributes essays and articles to various esteemed platforms, including The Stinging Fly and The New York Times. In addition to her writing, she teaches creative writing at the University of Galway and holds the position of nonfiction editor at The Stinging Fly. Her first book, The Disconnect: A Personal Journey Through the Internet, was released in 2021 by Serpent’s Tail.
Thomas Morris, hailing from Caerphilly, South Wales, is a writer and editor. His first short story collection, We Don’t Know What We’re Doing (Faber & Faber), garnered the Wales Book of the Year award among others. In 2023, he was recognized as one of Granta’s Best Young British Novelists and released his latest collection, Open Up. Morris currently resides in Dublin, where he has previously edited The Stinging Fly.
James Hudson, a Dublin-based writer, editor, and programmer, has published works in various literary journals. He heads the Trans Image/Trans Experience Film Festival and contributes as an Assistant Programmer to the GAZE LGBTQIA International Film Festival.
