This concert is part of 'The Fabulous Four', a two-day free piano festival held at the Winter Circus in Ghent.

The Fabulous Jazz Battle

The weekend will conclude with a unique Jazz Battle. Four top pianists, Bram De Looze, Bart Van Caenegem, Alano Gruarin & Jef Neve, will take their places at four different concert grand pianos.

Improvisation, dialogue, and many surprising twists define this evening, which revolves around interaction, spontaneity, and pure musical joy. This is the first time these four artists will share a stage in such a special setting: four concert grand pianos, side by side, in the heart of the Winter Circus.

Bram De Looze is a Belgian pianist with a distinctive musical vision. His music, from his breakthrough with LABtrio to groundbreaking projects like Vice Versa, showcases a continual quest for freedom, depth, and innovation. With a unique blend of technique and artistic boldness, Bram De Looze has secured his place on the international jazz scene.

Bart Van Caenegem seamlessly navigates genres and styles as a pianist. With a solid foundation in both classical music and jazz, he eagerly colors outside the lines in projects such as Gwen Cresens’ ECLECTICA, Kommil Foo, Stef Bos, Raymond Van het Groenewoud, and De Frivole Framboos. He also shares his expertise as a teacher at LUCA School of Arts – Lemmens Institute.

Alano Gruarin is a Belgian-Italian pianist, composer, and producer. With dual master's degrees in classical and jazz piano from LUCA - Lemmens Institute, he is involved in projects such as Hommage à Brel, Tanguedia, and BOVARII, as well as collaborations with Mich Walschaerts (Kommil Foo). His poetic, narrative playing style has led to partnerships with artists like Bert Joris, Jef Neve, Rocco Granata, and Raymond van het Groenewoud.

Jef Neve is a well-known name in Belgium and beyond. With a career spanning jazz, classical music, and film scores, he tours worldwide with his solo projects, duos, and ensembles. A mainstay on international stages, Jef Neve knows how to make an impact, whether performing an intimate piano concert or a grand project with an orchestra.
