The Graduate Research School invites the JCU community to participate in an insightful panel discussion titled Health and Wellbeing in Research. This discussion will address the obstacles and methods for achieving balance throughout the research process.
Engaging in research can be both fulfilling and challenging. The panel features experts from various fields, including research, academia, and mental health, who will share important views on maintaining wellbeing while striving to meet research objectives.
Panelists
Hugh Kearns – A practitioner and researcher specializing in cognitive behavioural coaching, public speaking, education, and co-director/founder of iThinkWell (https://www.ithinkwell.com.au/).
Associate Professor Rebecca Evans – Serving as the Associate Dean of Research Education at the College of Medicine and Dentistry at JCU, she is a lecturer and researcher at the Anton Breinl Research Centre for Health Systems Strengthening, as well as an HDR advisor (https://portfolio.jcu.edu.au/researchers/rebecca.evans/).
Sarah Robinson - A career and wellbeing advisor for students at JCU (https://www.jcu.edu.au/safety-and-wellbeing), she is also a qualified mental health social worker and a licensed mental health first aid instructor.
Dr Jenny Darr – An Indigenous PhD candidate at JCU, she is the CEO and founder of Jadee Consulting (https://jadeeconsulting.com.au/) and a Principal Research Fellow at the Menzies School of Health Research, having successfully completed her PhD part-time while employed.
Emmanuel Ofori-Amponsah – Currently an international full-time doctoral candidate at the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine and an International Student Mentor. He completed his confirmation of candidacy in 2023 and is set to finish his mid-candidature review in 2025.
Bianca Martin – A domestic full-time external doctoral candidate and HDR Ambassador for the College of Arts, Society and Education at JCU. She completed her confirmation of candidacy in 2024.
Attendees are welcome to join the discussion at the JCU Townsville Campus in the Education Central Lecture Theatre - Building 134, Room 010, where refreshments and engaging conversations will follow the panel.
