AURA Istanbul is excited to announce the commencement of a new seminar series titled "Beyond Rationalism in Architecture," guided by the renowned Ali Artun. Following the journey through art and modernism in the previous seminar series "A History of Modernism," this series introduces a fresh perspective within the field of architecture.
Ali Artun is a distinguished figure known for his extensive research in art history, cultural criticism, and modernism, contributing significantly to Turkey's art and culture landscape. He has served as the editor of the ArtLife series at Communication Publications for many years, bridging countless valuable works on art and modernism to the readers. Artun’s analysis presents a critical viewpoint on the various dimensions of modernism in the context of art and society, offering new horizons for those contemplating art and modernism.

About Ali Artun
Ali Artun graduated from the Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 1972. He conducted research on scientific and technological topics at the Chamber of Architects and the social positions of architects and engineers, authoring various articles including the book "Fordism and the Transformation of the Engineer". After 1980, he managed the Ankara Contemporary Stage Culture Center, organizing events related to art history, literature, and music as part of the 500-Year Riddle program. He participated in the establishment of Galeri Nev in 1984 and has curated many exhibitions in Ankara since then, editing over 100 publications by Galeri Nev, including significant works. He has also played roles in the management of Sanart and has taught art history at the faculties of fine arts at Marmara and Yıldız universities, as well as at the Social Sciences Institute of Istanbul Technical University. Since 2000, he has been managing the "Sanathayat" series, which compiles works in cultural criticism. Additionally, he continues as the editor of the e-skop online magazine he founded. His latest published books include: "Art on the Edge of Modernity: Criticism, Autonomy, Politics" (2006), "Museum and Modernity" (2006), "The Organization of Contemporary Art" (2011), "The Power of Art: 1917 Revolution, Avant-Garde Art, and Museology" (2015), "The Impossible Museum: What Do Museums Show?" (2017), "Dada Guide, 1913-1923 Munich, Zurich, Berlin, Paris" (co-authored with Nur Altınyıldız Artun, 2018); "The Concept of Modernism and the Birth of Modernist Art in Turkey" (2020); "Dreamer Architecture/The Architecture of Free Tools" (2023); "The Intellect of Architecture" (2024).
