The Buda Castle is a quintessential landmark in Budapest, overlooking the Danube from the heights of Buda Hill. It has witnessed the city’s history for centuries. To explore its rich evolution and the key sites of this district with a Spanish-speaking official guide, participants are invited to join a free walking tour.
Participants will meet at Döbrentei Square, next to the statue of Empress Sissi, to learn about the origins of the Buda hills before embarking on a journey to the well-known Royal Palace. Along the way, they will discover interesting facts about the Semmelweis Museum and the Buda Castle Garden Bazaar, from where they can ascend for one of the best views of Budapest.
The stories of King Bela IV, General Eugene of Savoy, and King will accompany the group as they walk around the majestic Buda Castle, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The palace currently houses the Museum of History of Budapest, the Széchenyi Library, and the Hungarian National Gallery.
The next stop is in the administrative zone of the Buda district, where the Sándor Palace, the official residence of the President of Hungary, is located. Adjacent to it stands the Carmelite Monastery, where the Prime Minister conducts some of their functions. Participants will learn about the differences between these two roles.
A quick crossing of the street leads to the residential area known as the medieval city. Here, narrow streets hold many tales, such as the Hospital in the Rock and the traditional Ruszwurm Pastry Shop, a favorite of Empress Sissi, where they can sample the pastries that delighted the queen.
Near the end of the tour, the Matthias Church offers fascinating insights, concluding the walk at the Fisherman’s Bastion, one of the city's most beautiful viewpoints, perfect for capturing stunning photographs. Will they miss this opportunity?
