EVENT DETAILS

The next hiking appointment is set for May 4th, and it will take place in the Corinthia region! Participants will trek through the Flabouri Gorge, experiencing the vibrant colors and scents of Spring while navigating the natural border between Mount Ziria and Mount Kyllini.

Mount Kyllini or Ziria is the second highest mountain in the Peloponnese, with its name originating from a Slavic root meaning "acorn." It consists of two distinct peaks: the Great Ziria (highest peak at 2374m) and the Small Ziria (2117m).

The Flabouri Valley, included in the Natura 2000 network, is intersected by the Sythe River and flows into the sea near Xylokastro. This area showcases significant biodiversity, featuring forests of Cephalonia fir and black pine, numerous streams emerging from ancient trees, and disappearing into underground flows.

Participants will also have the chance to visit the "Cave of Hermes" at an altitude of 1750m, which has a legendary connection to the god Hermes, known for his swift flight and cunning. The hike will begin at Varnevó (at an altitude of 1380m) from a well-known wooden kiosk and fire station, descending through a densely wooded slope for approximately 2 km before heading uphill through a fir forest to the Ziria Plateau at 1500m and the Ziria Ski Center.

For those who wish, there is a path leading to the Cave of Hermes up to its entrance, as special equipment is required to enter the interior.

The trek will follow this route: Varnevó 1380m - intersection toward the plateau 1200m - Ziria plateau 1500m, approximately a 6 km trail (recommended for beginners with good physical condition and necessary equipment), about ~3.5 hours (duration depends on the group's dynamics).

After the hike, participants will be transported to a local tavern for a meal and socializing. Attendance at the tavern is optional.

The approximate return to Athens is around 21:00.

The apo-drasis will take place on Sunday, May 4th, 2025.

Departure: 07:30 (tentative) from the FIX metro station, the initial meeting point (see meeting points below)

Return: 21:00 (tentative)

Those interested in joining should note that the final participation cost will be:

EARLY BOOKING €32 (discounted price) for those who register by the end of Friday, April 25, 2025, at 24:00 (only for the first 25 participants until spots are filled and beyond the aforementioned date).

DEPOSIT €20

REGULAR PRICE €37 (price without discount) after the aforementioned deadline of April 25, 2025, or after the first 25 spots are filled, up to May 3, 2025, at 12:00, pending available seats on the bus.

DEPOSIT €25

OWN VEHICLE €15 for those who wish to come using their vehicles and notify by May 3, 2025, at 12:00.

DEPOSIT €10

The above prices include:

1. All transportation in a luxury bus

2. The planning and implementation of the program

3. Compensation for trekking guides

Not included are any items not mentioned in the program.

A few days prior to the hike, participants will receive an email with the detailed itinerary, meeting points and times, as well as necessary equipment recommendations.

CANCELLATION POLICY

· For reservations made with early booking and a deposit submitted, in case of cancellation by the participant, the deposit will not be refunded.

· A participant who wishes to cancel can propose another individual to avoid losing the deposit, provided this is done in a reasonable time before the hike.

· For reservations made with a regular ticket and a deposit submitted, half of the deposit will be refunded if the cancellation occurs from April 28, 2025, at 24:00 and until May 1, 2025, at 24:00.

· Full refund of the deposit concerning all tickets will only be made in case of cancellation of the hike by organizers due to safety reasons, weather conditions, or emergencies.

The remaining amount beyond the deposit is to be paid in cash during the hike.
