Book Presentation & Artist Talk: "Morocco – Encounters" with Photographer Bettina Meister

– Sensitive Photography and Anecdotes –

The presentation of the photo book "Morocco – Encounters" showcases Bettina Meister, a Stuttgart-based photographer, at the Leica Gallery Düsseldorf on April 24, 2025. Through sensitive photographs and charming anecdotes, Bettina Meister brings to life Morocco beyond the tourist paths. The inspiration for the photo book centers on Sara, whose encounter is featured in one of the short stories.

Norbert Nieser, a gallery owner from Stuttgart, describes the work of Bettina Meister: "Through her photo book 'Morocco – Encounters', she takes us on a journey to a captivating country that challenges and deeply touches the heart. Morocco is a land where the Orient meets Europe, characterized by breathtaking diversity and enchanting beauty. Bettina Meister has fallen in love with this country and captured its essence with her camera. From the alleys of Marrakech to the majestic High Atlas mountains and the endless expanses of the Sahara desert, her images narrate a love story for this fascinating land. Each picture conveys the vibrant energy of lively cities, the tranquility of landscapes, and above all, the people, whose nature and way of life are made visible through Bettina Meister’s empathetic lens. Her photographs pay homage to the beauty of a country often hidden from view, as well as to the people who bring it to life, giving a voice to those who might otherwise be overlooked and presenting the world from a new perspective filled with appreciation and respect.”

For those wishing to experience Morocco alongside the photographer, there are opportunities to partake in a photography workshop in Morocco or attend one of her lectures.

Reviews of the Book "Morocco – Encounters":

Peter Carstens, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung: “The Stuttgart-based photographer Bettina Meister ventures repeatedly through the country [Morocco]. Her images from the High Atlas, Marrakech, or the desert landscapes in the south around Erg Chebbi reflect the traditional aspects of the country, craftsmanship, clay houses, and enduring simple machines. The opulent book is elevated by the many depicted Moroccans: young and older individuals, craftsmen, farmers, female musicians, students, or shopkeepers, portrayed with interest and affection. The photographer also shares anecdotes about these encounters..."

Josef Schunder, Blättle Stuttgart-West: “The book called 'Morocco – Encounters' also includes short texts in English. Bettina Meister aimed to share experiences and impressions of people who are often forgotten; the pain and dignified radiance of Sara, the overlooked woman, as well as the kindness of the other individuals she met in Morocco. The grand scenery of landscapes and cities stands out too. However, the photographer does not leave viewers solely with her photos but traces her journey through southern Morocco – providing context...”
