In 2025, the significance of remembering the victims and sites of violence from 80 years ago, following the end of World War II and the liberation from Nazism, gains increased attention in society and education policy. The passing of the eyewitness generation prompts renewed discussions on the relevance of memory and its contemporary forms and content. Ongoing global crises, such as the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, add new challenges to the discourse on memory politics and culture. Schools play a crucial role in these collective processes.
The conference “Eighty Years Later. Artistic Approaches to NS Memory Work and Education Today” focuses on artistic forms of remembrance and the associated experiences and practices in education.
This conference is a collaborative effort involving the OeAD – Agency for Education and Internationalization (Program ERINNERN:AT, Culture Education with Schools), the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Graz, and the Department of Art and Cultural Education at the Institute for Artistic Teacher Education of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
The venue is easily accessible by public transport, and participants are encouraged to travel using public means when possible!
