Welcome to an enchanting evening dedicated to techno music! Enjoy engaging conversations, live performances, and dancing while savoring a drink under the spring sky with beats of drums and bass.
Musician and journalist Peter Krutsch discusses the evolution of underground music in East Germany following the fall of the DDR. What has emerged from this transformation? Why is Leipzig attracting more young artists than ever, despite a rightward shift in East Germany's political climate? Musician Simon Fagerstedt shares his reasons for choosing Leipzig as his creative home where he explores music beyond traditional norms.
The Swedish-German duo NEWSEUM merges jazz and techno with a less is more philosophy. The band features Simon Fagerstedt on bass and Peter Krutsch on drums and samples. They live and work in East Germany, an area that played a pivotal role in the development of techno in Europe. This genre has thrived in dimly lit, dusty basements of abandoned industrial buildings, which were closed by building authorities after the fall of the DDR.
These spaces provided the opportunity for something new. Leipzig has preserved these free spaces and continues to utilize them today. NEWSEUM crafts their music in an industrial basement, right in the heart of this underground refuge. Next door, the electric crackle of thick cables from an old yet still active transformer station can be heard, almost echoing in their music.
