Ukrainian director, producer, and media manager Alexander Rodnyansky is considered one of the most influential figures in Russian cinema in recent decades. A member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he has received a Golden Globe and has been nominated for an Oscar four times. Before 2022, he lived and worked in Russia, leading the Kinotavr festival and producing numerous films and series. His notable works include films by Andrei Zvyagintsev and Kantemir Balagov. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Rodnyansky condemned Russian military aggression and left the country. 

In his book "Nelyubov" (Dislike), named after one of the films he produced, Rodnyansky analyzes his creative journey and reflects on the political, social, and cultural changes in Russia over the last twenty years. He grapples with the question of why he and many of his colleagues in the film industry did not foresee the possibility of war, despite censorship, repression, and increasingly intense pressure from authorities.
