This occasion is part of Theatreship's unique guest nights where contemporary artists showcase their chosen narratives.
More information follows:
‘Songs on the Water’ is a complimentary gathering inviting all to partake in the sharing and enjoyment of traditional folk music. The evening celebrates the oral tradition, where stories and histories come alive through shanties, ballads, choruses, and protest songs.
Hosted on the Theatreship, located in the bustling docklands, the evening encourages a friendly singaround atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to perform a song, though participation isn’t mandatory; attendees can enjoy the music by joining in the choruses or simply listening. There are no strict definitions for what constitutes a 'traditional folk song,' so contributions from various folk traditions are encouraged!
While accompaniment with instruments is permitted, the primary focus is on singing. For those more interested in instrumental performances, Theatreship also hosts a lively tunes session that might be better suited for that purpose.
Recommended age: 12+
