Free Tour por el Castillo de Buda

Info

The Buda Castle is one of the most iconic landmarks in Budapest. Overlooking the Danube from the top of Buda Hill, it has witnessed the city’s history for centuries. Those interested in learning about its evolution, as well as essential sites in this district of the Hungarian capital, can join a free walking tour led by an official Spanish-speaking guide.

The meeting point is at Döbrentei Square next to the statue of Empress Sissi, where participants will discover the origins of Buda’s mountainous landscape before starting their stroll to the well-known Royal Palace. Along the way, intriguing details about the Semmelweis Museum and Castle Garden Bazaar will be shared, and visitors will climb for one of the best views of Budapest.

The history of King Bela IV, General Eugene of Savoy, and Monarch Matthias Corvinus will accompany the group as they walk around the majestic Buda Castle, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, together with the monumental and residential complex on the hill. The palace also currently houses the Museum of Budapest History, Széchenyi Library, and Hungarian National Gallery.

The next stop is in the administrative area of Buda district, where the Sandor Palace serves as the official residence of the President of Hungary. Next to it stands the Carmelite Monastery, a place where the Prime Minister carries out some of his duties. There will be discussions on the differences between these two roles.

Crossing the street leads participants into a residential area known as the medieval city. Among the streets, they will find intriguing locations such as the Rock Hospital and the traditional Ruszwurm Pastry Shop, a popular spot for Empress Sissi, where delicious pastries served the queen will be explored.

The nearby Matthias Church awaits to reveal its unique features before concluding the walking tour at the Fishermen's Bastion, one of the city’s most beautiful viewpoints, ideal for capturing stunning postcards. Don’t miss out on this experience!
