The Swedish government has launched a new visa program for professionals wishing to work in Sweden, effective June 1, 2022.
This program is designed for individuals who possess a job offer from a Swedish employer and intend to reside and work exclusively in Sweden for four years. The duration of the work permit contributes towards permanent residency in Sweden.
Typically, a standard work permit can be processed in 10 days if submitted by a company accredited by the Migration Agency.
The EU Blue Card serves as a work and residence permit for non-EU/EEA nationals, akin to the U.S. Green Card. It aims to facilitate highly skilled workers in securing employment rights in the EU, offering extensive socio-economic rights along with a pathway to permanent residency and EU citizenship.
This permit is suited for those planning to work in multiple EU countries in the upcoming four years. The Blue Card is recognized in several EU nations, potentially easing relocation, and the duration of holding the Blue Card in Sweden may be acknowledged during permanent residency evaluations in other countries.
While EU Blue Card applications are generally managed within 2-3 weeks, the Migration Agency has a maximum of 90 days for processing, which may extend based on the officer's workload.
