The final session of the conference series dedicated to the Sacrament of the Eucharist will explore the complex relationship between ecumenism and the Eucharist. Although Orthodox and Catholic Christians share a belief in the same Eucharist, they cannot jointly celebrate this mystery and sacrament. Furthermore, Protestant and Evangelical churches have developed fundamentally different understandings of the Eucharist celebration. Thus, is the Eucharist an obstacle or a facilitator for the ecumenical process?
The speaker addressing this essential question is Father Claudio Monge op.
Claudio Monge is a Dominican priest, director of DoSt-I, professor at the Faculty of Theology of Emilia Romagna, and the Venice Ecumenical Studies Institute, as well as an advisor for the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. He completed his doctorate in fundamental theology at Strasbourg University with a thesis on hospitality in Abrahamic religions.
