The Swedish government introduced a talent visa program starting from June 1, 2022, aimed at professionals interested in working in Sweden.
This program is designed for individuals who have secured a job offer from a Swedish employer and intend to relocate to Sweden for a duration of four years. The time spent under this work permit contributes towards obtaining Swedish permanent residency.
Applications for a standard work permit can be processed in approximately 10 days if submitted by an organization certified by the Migration Agency.
The EU Blue Card serves as a residence and work permit for non-EU/EEA nationals, comparable to the US Green Card. It facilitates access for highly skilled professionals to work in the EU, offering extensive socio-economic rights and a pathway to permanent residency and EU citizenship.
The Blue Card is suitable for those planning to work in various EU nations over the next four years. Many EU member states offer Blue Card permits, making transitions easier. Additionally, the time spent holding a Blue Card in Sweden may be recognized when applying for permanent residency in another EU country.
Typically, EU Blue Card applications are processed within 2-3 weeks; however, the Migration Agency can take up to 90 days, particularly if the case officer has a heavy workload.
