The Swedish government introduced a talent visa program for professionals wishing to work in Sweden, effective from June 1, 2022.
This program is aimed at individuals who hold a job offer from a Swedish employer and intend to reside and work in Sweden for four years. The duration on the work permit contributes towards eligibility for permanent residency in Sweden.
The EU Blue Card serves as a work-and-residence permit for non-EU/EEA citizens, facilitating easier access for highly skilled professionals to work within the EU, while offering extensive socio-economic rights and a route to permanent residency and EU citizenship.
This card is suitable for those planning to work in different EU nations within the next four years. Several countries in the EU recognize Blue Card permits, which can simplify the process of relocating. Additionally, time spent holding a Blue Card in Sweden may be acknowledged when applying for permanent residency in other nations.
Typically, an EU Blue Card application is processed within 2-3 weeks, although the Migration Agency may take up to 90 days during busier periods.
