The Swedish government has launched a new visa initiative starting from June 1, 2022, aimed at professionals seeking employment opportunities in Sweden.
This program targets individuals with a job offer from a Swedish employer, allowing them to reside and work in Sweden for a duration of four years. The time spent under this work permit contributes to their application for permanent residency in Sweden.
For applicants whose submission is made by a certified company to the Migration Agency, the processing of a standard work permit will typically be completed within 10 days.
The EU Blue Card serves as a work and residence permit tailored for non-EU/EEA nationals, akin to the US Green Card. This program was established to assist highly skilled workers in securing employment rights within the EU, providing extensive socio-economic rights and a route to permanent residency and EU citizenship.
The Blue Card is suitable for those aiming to work in various EU nations over the next four years. Many EU countries offer Blue Card permits, simplifying relocation processes. Moreover, some countries will recognize the duration of holding a Blue Card in Sweden when assessing an application for permanent residency.
An application for the EU Blue Card is usually processed within a timeframe of 2-3 weeks; however, the Migration Agency may take up to 90 days for finalization if additional processing is required.
