The Swedish government launched a talent visa program for professionals seeking employment in Sweden from June 1, 2022.
This program is for individuals who have received a job offer from a Swedish company and plan to reside and work exclusively in Sweden for the following four years. The duration of the work permit contributes to the application for permanent residency in Sweden.
Typical processing for a work permit takes about 10 days if the application originates from a certified company recognized by the Migration Agency.
The EU Blue Card serves as a work and residence permit for non-EU/EEA citizens, enacted as Europe's response to the US Green Card. This card aims to facilitate the entry of highly skilled workers into the EU, offering extensive socio-economic rights along with a pathway toward permanent residency and EU citizenship.
This card is suitable for those intending to work in multiple EU countries over the next four years. Many EU nations provide Blue Card permits, which can simplify relocation procedures, and prior holding of a Blue Card in Sweden may also expedite the permanent residency application process.
Generally, an EU Blue Card application is processed within 2-3 weeks, although the Migration Agency has a maximum of 90 days for processing, potentially lengthening the duration during busy periods.
