Matcha (抹茶) is a distinct type of green tea that originated in China and reached Japan in 1191. This tea is produced by cultivating the finest leaves under specific conditions and grinding them into a fine powder. Unlike other teas that are infused, matcha is mixed directly with water. The flavor profile of matcha features a savory-sweet, grassy, and refreshing taste, with some varieties exhibiting nutty, roasted, or floral hints. Top-notch matcha tends to have more of the savory 'umami' flavor characteristic of shade-grown green tea, with decreased bitterness.
