A Transformative Melody
Listening is an artistry similar to performing "Canto Ostinato."
This December, Tomoko Mukaiyama, in collaboration with Diego Espinosa, will present their interpretation of the renowned composition Canto Ostinato across three locations in the Netherlands. They will perform the piece on piano and marimba, capturing the audience's imagination with their artistry.
The esteemed composer Simeon ten Holt created Canto Ostinato between 1976 and 1979, and it continues to resonate with musicians and audiences alike. The masterpiece is known for its unique ability to evoke deep emotional responses and encourage introspection.
Its open-ended structure allows for individual interpretation, ensuring that each performance is distinct. The adaptability of the instruments and flexibility in repetition calls for intense collaboration between the musicians, highlighting the importance of joint decision-making in the creative process.
On pakjesavond, the concert will take place in a sacred yet cozy atmosphere. At De Duif, a celebrated church in Amsterdam, a select number of guests will have the chance to savor the musical experience alongside a sake tasting, featuring unique offerings from Otemba Sake, paired with vibrant snacks inspired by Japanese cuisine from Hinaichi Bento.
