The Swedish government has launched a new talent visa program for professionals wishing to work in Sweden, effective from June 1, 2022.
This program is suitable for individuals who have secured a job offer from a Swedish company and intend to live and work in Sweden for a period of four years. Time spent on the work permit contributes towards the application for Swedish permanent residency.
If the application is made by a certified company with the Migration Agency, a standard work permit can be processed within 10 days.
The EU Blue Card functions as a work and residence permit for non-EU/EEA nationals, paralleling the US Green Card. It simplifies the process for highly skilled workers seeking employment in the European Union and offers various socio-economic rights along with a route to permanent residency and EU citizenship.
The Blue Card is ideal for those planning to work in multiple EU nations over the next four years. Holding a Blue Card may also ease the transition to permanent residency in Sweden, as many EU countries consider the duration spent with a Blue Card in Sweden.
Typically, an application for an EU Blue Card is processed within 2-3 weeks; however, the Migration Agency has a maximum of 90 days for processing, which may extend the timeframe during busy periods.
