Within the Noise features a special excerpt from the performance Noise, followed by a discussion with artists Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz and neuroscientists Joe Paton and Zach Mainen from Champalimaud Research. This session will provide insights into the interplay between artistic expression and neuroscientific inquiry.
Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, a dynamic duo of dancers and choreographers since 2006, are engaged in a residency at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown during 2023 and 2024. Their collaboration is part of the Bridges to the Unknown Art-Science Residency Programme, where they engage in interdisciplinary explorations alongside neuroscientists.
Their piece, Noise, draws inspiration from concepts in neuroscience, specifically the notion of "noise" as randomness within neural signals. This work transforms the idea of random fluctuations into powerful metaphors for diverse experiences that, while seemingly chaotic, can yield significant insights and meaning. Through the performance, Sofia and Vítor explore moments of encounter and disruption as catalysts for creativity and transformation.
Attendees are invited to an inspiring evening that bridges the realms of art and science through the innovative work of Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz.
