Applicants Utilizing SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)

Manlin will conduct the course in Chinese, with supplementary English support.

Li Shu (隶书), an ancient style of Chinese calligraphy, is considered fundamental in the study of calligraphy. This introductory course aims to teach participants the Li Shu style.

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to basic strokes, structure, and characters of Chinese calligraphy.
  • Detailed exploration of rules and the seven formulas of writing Li Shu, referencing the Cao Quan Monument (曹全碑).
  • Creation of art pieces consisting of 1 word, 4 words, and 5-word couplets.

Required Materials:

  • Plastic sheet for the desk.
  • Cloth/Newspaper for backing rice paper, water pot, and rag for brush cleaning.
  • Shawl/Sweater for warmth during the session.

Materials Provided: Brush, ink, paper, saucer.

Zhou Manlin holds a degree in Architecture from Tsinghua University. She is affiliated with the Life Art Society, specializing in teaching Chinese Brush Painting and Chinese Calligraphy.
