"The center is the answer": the conference of the European Democratic Party
At the "Autoworld" museum in Brussels, where the history of the European automotive industry is celebrated, the Congress of the European Democratic Party will take place, one of the two parties that make up the "Renew Europe" group in the European Parliament. Immediately after, starting from 5 PM, the hall will open to non-delegates for the conference titled "The centre is the answer" (Le Centre est la réponse). The first part will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the European Democratic Party, featuring videos and testimonies from its founders. The second part will focus on the challenges faced by a centrist, humanist, pragmatic, and reformist political party. Topics will include the threats posed by a sovereignist and Eurosceptic right, along with challenges Europe faces regarding competitiveness and new digital technologies. The relationship with the United States and the United Kingdom will also be discussed. Academic interventions, testimonies from countries governed by the right, videos, musical moments, and interviews will alternate throughout the conference. In conclusion, speeches will be delivered by Sandro Gozi, the Secretary-General of the PDE, and François Bayrou, the President. Among the contributions scheduled so far are those of Maxime Prevot, President of the Engagés, and political scientist Yair Zivan, author of "The Centre Must Hold: Why Centrism is the answer to extremism and polarization." To wrap up the conference, a cocktail reception will be held in the central hall of the Autoworld museum, amid display models.
