This one-day workshop is tailored for family members and friends who support someone diagnosed or suspected to have borderline personality disorder (BPD). It aims to equip attendees with information about BPD and to highlight effective ways to provide support while also emphasizing self-care. Participants will delve into various educational and practical strategies to acquire new skills in a supportive and secure environment with fellow caregivers.
Facilitators:
Rita Brown serves as the Carer Consultant for Spectrum, bringing personal insights from her experience in caring for someone with BPD. She has contributed to several workshops and support groups for families and caregivers at Spectrum and is actively involved as a volunteer and board member of the Australian BPD Foundation.
Jo Veltkamp is a seasoned mental health nurse with a wealth of experience in different roles within both private and public mental health systems. Her primary focus is on assisting individuals with personality disorders and their caregivers. She is currently a Senior Clinician at Spectrum, collaborating closely with both the Spectrum Lived Experience Team and the intake team, while continuing her work with adolescents and adults in public mental health settings.
Who should participate? This workshop is designed for family members and friends of individuals with a (or likely) diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.
