Event Description:
The hiking group SWEN is organizing a one-day excursion to the Mountainous Corinthia on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Participants will hike through a lush green trail on the slopes of Dourdouvana, which is the southernmost tip of Chelmos, and visit one of the most beautiful lakes in Peloponnese, Lake Doxa.
The journey will commence from Athens at 07:00 AM, with the first stop at Lake Doxa. This small but stunning lake, situated at an altitude of 890 meters, is surrounded by an area rich in fir, pine, and oak trees. Lake Doxa was created in 1990 by constructing a dam that holds the waters of the mountain river Doxa, enabling local farmers to irrigate their fields. In the center of the lake, there is a charming chapel dedicated to Saint Fanourios, reachable by a picturesque path.
Setting off from Lake Doxa, the group will begin their hiking adventure towards the Pass of the Hunter, along a trail abundant with firs, black pines, oaks, chestnuts, and various mushroom species. Throughout the hike, stunning views of the lake will be available.
Accompanied by an experienced guide, participants will reach Gkogkaki's hut, where they can enjoy a delightful break while overlooking Lake Doxa and Mount Ziria in Corinthia.
The journey continues to the picturesque Monastery of Saint George, founded in the 14th century. Originally located at the lake's level, it was moved in 1693 to its current site due to flooding. This new location offers breathtaking views of the entire lake and attracts visitors eager to taste the monks' famous specialty, rose jelly.
As the group departs from the monastery, they'll head to a nearby tavern to savor local dishes and delicacies before returning to Athens, rejuvenated and filled with the beautiful memories that mountainous Corinthia has to offer.

- Suitable for individuals aged 14 and above (minors must be accompanied by an adult)
- Good physical condition
- Basic Gear

- Water (at least 1.5 - 2 liters per person for hiking)
Ticket Prices:
- Early Bird Ticket: €33.99 (until November 27, 2024, or until sold out)
- Regular Ticket: €38.99 (until December 6, 2024, or until sold out)
- Ticket with own transport: €20 (until December 6, 2024, or until sold out). Limited spots available for those who wish to participate but will travel using their own means. The hike is circular, starting and ending at the same point.
All participants who purchase a ticket will receive a detailed informational email 2-3 days before the hike to help with their preparation (weather, final updates, etc.).
