Château Climens
Premier Cru in the classification of white wines from Bordeaux since 1855
A wine tasting of Château Climens will be held, hosted by Jérôme Moitry (INSEAD 91D), co-owner of the estate. The evening will be warmly received by Antoine Sage (AMP13), President of INSEAD Arts, promising a memorable experience surrounded by nature.
Château Climens, classified as a premier cru in Sauternes since 1855, is nicknamed the "Lord of Barsac," known for its uniquely elegant and fresh wines. This distinct character is largely attributed to its unique limestone terroir and mastery of the primary grape variety in Sauternes and Barsac: Sémillon. The estate has been managed biodynamically since 2010, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity.
Jérôme Moitry will guide the attendees through the offerings from Château Climens:

About Château Climens
Château Climens is a 32-hectare vineyard located in Barsac, Gironde. As an AOC Barsac, it holds the prestigious title of premier grand cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.
This exceptional estate earned the title of "Lord of Barsac" early on, even though "Climens" translates to poor land in Celtic. A known paradox in the wine world, the vines manage to elevate the less fertile soils, creating exceptional terroirs by sending their roots deep into the ground. The vineyard sits on a plateau about 20 meters above sea level, encompassing 32 hectares surrounding the château.
Enclosed by dry stone walls, it features the red soil associated with the famous red sands of Barsac. This thin layer of clayey and ferruginous sands, no more than 50 cm deep, rests on a fissured limestone subsoil, marking the presence of the sea during the lower Oligocene period, almost 30 million years ago.
About Jérôme Moitry
Jérôme Moitry, a centralien and INSEAD 91D graduate, assisted his brother in acquiring this major Bordeaux estate two years ago. Captivated by the remarkable terroir of Barsac and the unique wines of Climens, he took over the management of the estate. He has started a significant transformation with the château team to meet new commercial and climatic challenges.
