In this final lunch lecture of the season, historian Els Kloek is a guest speaker. Kloek specializes in historical research on the role of women in Dutch history. Her most renowned work is the Digital Women's Lexicon of the Netherlands, a website created with the collaboration of hundreds of experts. It gathers over 2000 biographies of mostly forgotten women, and the project gained significant recognition through two encyclopedic reference books titled 1001 Women.
During the lecture, Kloek will explain why this project represents her interpretation of 'women's history.' She considers it her life's work, despite having authored other publications as well. Recently, she wrote a historical overview of feminism and is currently researching Geesje Feddes, a woman notary from Leeuwarden, who was a mother of twelve and wrote a feminist pamphlet in 1870 that continues to make an impact.
