Mandabi (The Money Order, Le Mandat) is a film by Ousmane Sembène that narrates the story of Ibrahima Dieng, a Senegalese man in search of employment. The plot explores his challenges as he navigates a complex and corrupt bureaucracy to obtain a money order from his nephew in Paris to settle a debt. The movie, based on Sembène’s own book, is significant for being presented entirely in the filmmaker's native language, Wolof, highlighting his commitment to making cinema accessible to the Senegalese people.
