On Sunday, December 8, a free winter festival will take place in Noord featuring around sixty performers across twenty venues. Well-known poets, singers, writers, and musicians will form temporary duos, moving from bar to barber and brewery, as well as from café or record store to studio. They will perform for fifteen minutes at each location, showcasing a variety of styles from sentimental ballads to punk-inspired spoken word, comedy to accordion-driven hip hop. Venues include Brouwerij Noordt on Zwaanshals, Het Postiljon at Noordplein, and café De Bel, as well as locations in Crooswijk such as the Heineken building, Bar Alaska, or café Eden. Derek Otte will kick off the festival. The festivities occur on December 8 from 12:00 to 21:00.

During Noorderdicht bij de Bar, artists and audiences venture out of their comfort zones and into unfamiliar bars, whether they be quaint or overly trendy. This fourth edition of Rotterdam's most delightful word art and music festival promises even more venues and spaces, including pubs, bars, a barber, a bakery (theater), breweries, and eateries, filled with local heroes, big names, fresh talent, and experienced performers from Rotterdam, especially the Noord district.

Noorderdicht was originally conceived as a walking route through local hospitality during the lockdown, compiled by residents featuring texts on beer coasters. It has since evolved into a festival fostering encounters and connections among old and new Rotterdammers, celebrating word art and music that brings people together.

“People will visit bars and taverns they never knew existed, meeting new individuals, artists, and experiencing word art. Everyone is pushed out of their comfort zones; cafes, visitors, performers, barflies, and latte drinkers alike. So step out and truly break free from your bubble!” says organizer Edwin de Voigt. “And on December 8, we can do this again!

For the Company, a walking route has been reserved: Green Words but Old North. The guide will be Rotterdam ambassador Willem van Wijk. We will start at 13:30 at the Heineken building and end around 17:00/17:30 at Bar Benthuis. After tipping the guide, a drink will follow. Naturally, visitors are welcome to enjoy the festival earlier!

Registration will open on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, giving everyone a chance for a spot.
