The annual production of Handel's Messiah by the Irish Baroque Orchestra, in collaboration with Chamber Choir Ireland, is a much-anticipated highlight of the December festivities. This performance utilizes period instruments and showcases a full chorus to present Handel's cherished work in its original vibrancy and richness.
Recognized as a great composer of both sacred and secular music, Handel's mastery is clearly displayed in Messiah, a piece that resonated with Irish audiences since its debut in 1742. Peter Whelan, the Artistic Director of the IBO, leads this production, featuring individual solos from Chamber Choir Ireland's singers.
Messiah narrates the timeless journey of overcoming adversity, intertwining moments of sorrow with themes of hope and exuberance through a compelling arrangement of arias, recitatives, and choruses. It is Handel at his finest, expertly balancing lyrical and choral elements that echo the essence of the Christian narrative.
Celebrated as one of the greatest oratorios ever, Handel's Messiah continues to captivate audiences, retaining its popularity since its premiere in Dublin. This special performance is the perfect way to usher in the Christmas season.
Doors will open at 7.15pm.
