Renowned Anishinaabe author Tanya Talaga delves into her new book, which intricately weaves her family's narrative with the complex history of Canada.
The disappearance of Indigenous family members has been recognized for generations, with many lost due to residential schools, “Indian hospitals,” and asylums as part of a systemic effort to undermine the identities of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
The Knowing presents a unique perspective on Canadian history through Tanya Talaga's Indigenous viewpoint, starting with the life of her great-great grandmother, Annie Carpenter, and her family's long struggle against disenfranchisement.
Tanya Talaga engages in conversation with poet Kenzie Allen about The Knowing, shedding light on the ongoing centuries-long oppression faced by Indigenous communities.
The program will conclude with a Q&A session and a book signing, with books available for purchase.
