“The Stunning were the biggest band in the country; tracks such as Brewing up a Storm, Heads are Gonna Roll and Half Past Two are still alternative anthems.”
— Irish Times
“The Stunning pretty much did it all first time around, in this country at least. Paradise In The Picturehouse, their debut, was the first Irish debut album to go to number one and stayed there for five weeks.”
— Hot Press
The renowned band, known for their electrifying live shows, has enjoyed significant success with numerous top ten hits and chart-topping albums. Their iconic tracks, which resonate with fans from the late 80s and 90s, continue to attract new listeners, especially with the release of their latest number one Irish album in 2018 and two new singles.
Founded in 1987 in Galway, Ireland, The Stunning achieved their first Top 20 single within a year, soon followed by more Top 10 hits. Their debut album, 'Paradise in the Picturehouse', released in 1990, captured the number one position for five consecutive weeks, marking a significant milestone in Irish music history. The album was followed by their second number one, 'Once Around the World', and a live album titled 'Tightrope' released in '93 before their initial breakup.
After nearly a decade apart, the band reunited in 2003 and found their audience had expanded during their hiatus. In 2012, a remarkable 30,000 fans gathered to watch a free concert in their hometown of Galway. Their 2018 release, 'Twice Around the World', a renewed rendition of their acclaimed album, once again topped the charts, leading to a successful sold-out tour across Ireland that summer.
In September 2023, their classic song 'Brewing up a Storm' gained popularity through its licensing for promotional campaigns related to the Rugby World Cup, becoming an anthem for various sports teams.
During the pandemic, the band produced a one-hour film titled ‘We Come Alive’, featuring several guest artists such as Mundy and Camille O’Sullivan, set to premiere on Ireland’s leading national television channel later in 2023.
