Hosted by Shenyang American Center
Theme: Madonna with Chinese Characteristics
The discussion will revolve around the iconic figure of Madonna, who made a significant cultural impact in China post-reform. From the 1980s to the 2000s, her music and cultural influence transformed the publishing industry. On the evening of December 4th at 6 PM, Liu Chang, a researcher at Heidelberg University's Institute for Cross-Cultural Studies and a visiting scholar in World Literature at Harvard University and the English Department at UC Berkeley, will delve into this cultural phenomenon. This lecture will take participants on a journey through time, comparing the "Madonna fever" in China to the contemporary "Taylor Swift craze," highlighting how these pop icons have shaped Chinese-American cultural exchange in different eras. Those interested in pop culture and cross-cultural communication are encouraged to attend. The lecture will be conducted in English, with some segments in Chinese.
