The forum "Building Freedom: Political Strategies for LGBTIQ+ Rights and an Inclusive Future" aims to create a constructive dialogue space concerning human rights and opportunities for the LGBTIQ+ community in Panama and Latin America. The current political context presents unique challenges, especially after the elections, where minorities have faced discrimination and hate speech. This forum seeks to gather leaders, activists, academics, and private sector representatives to examine these realities and propose concrete solutions promoting inclusion and equality in the region.
Key topics will include the political participation of the LGBTIQ+ community, the impact of hate speech on democracy, and the ongoing barriers to full inclusion of LGBTIQ+ individuals in society. Through dynamic sessions, discussion panels, and brief talks, attendees will learn about strategies being developed to tackle these issues, including monitoring hate speech on digital platforms, promoting human rights, and the civil society's role in creating a more inclusive environment.
One central theme will focus on eradicating "conversion practices" in Panama and advancing towards the recognition of same-sex marriage. Discussions will cover legal and rights aspects as well as the importance of psychological and social support, and political reforms necessary to ensure the protection of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Furthermore, the role of the private sector in fostering inclusive and respectful work environments will be explored.
The forum will conclude with a reflection on the impact of HIV criminalization within the community and recognizing trans leaders and activists paving the way toward a more equitable future. At the end, participants will enjoy a closing cocktail where conclusions and next steps will be presented, solidifying a vision of a future where freedom and human rights form the foundation of a truly inclusive society for all.
