What influences emerging artistic practices?

At Artspace Aotearoa, the annual New Commissions exhibition aims to provide innovative and sustainable support for new artistic practices. In an engaging lecture, Assistant Curator Robbie Handcock will explore the various factors that shape emerging practices in Aotearoa. He will analyze calls-for-proposals as a source of data and share initial insights on trends and their connections to the wider art ecosystem.

Following the lecture, there will be a question-and-answer session.

While advance booking is advised, it is not mandatory.

This lecture is free of charge.
The venue, Kit, is situated on the lower ground floor of Artspace Aotearoa, with access via 8 East St.

BIOGRAPHY

Robbie Handcock is an artist and curator with a background in small communities across Australia, the Philippines, and Aotearoa. Currently, he serves as the Assistant Curator at Artspace Aotearoa. As an artist, he specializes in painting and printmaking, and as a curator, he has organized exhibitions for artist-run initiatives and public galleries. Robbie was a facilitator with play_station in Te Whanganui-a-Tara from 2019-2020 and curated the exhibition The Inner of Islands at Te Tuhi in 2021.
