Road-trip in Belize: Xunantunich, Jaguar Preserve and beaches, w/mod. hikes

Info

A road trip in Belize is organized to explore its unique biodiversity, including the only jaguar preserve in the world, along with its stunning beaches, lagoons, and ancient Mayan ruins like Xunantunich and Altin Ha.

This journey is designed for first-time visitors seeking to immerse themselves in the local culture and natural beauty. Prioritizing safety, the group will travel by car to various key attractions.

Following a recent exploration of Guatemala, this segment in Belize offers a more laid-back experience, featuring three nights at beach hotels in Belize City and Dangriga. The itinerary starts in Belize City, with drives to San Ignacio, Dangriga, and Burrell Boom.

In December, the weather is warm, averaging 75°F during the day (58°F at night), although it is dry season with potential rain and coastal winds. For weather updates, a link is provided here.

Trip highlights:

  • 5-day, 4-night excursion for a small group of six participants.
  • Starting and concluding at Belize City International Airport (BZE).
  • Accommodation in hotels in Belize City, San Ignacio, and Dangriga.
  • Activity level ranges from easy to intermediate.

Recommended attire and gear include:

  • Sturdy hiking shoes,
  • A warm jacket for evenings,
  • Hiking poles if preferred,
  • A day backpack,
  • A hydration bladder for hikes,
  • Sunglasses,
  • Sunscreen,
  • A hat,
  • Personal protective items: mask, sanitizer, and gloves (optional).

The total cost of the trip is $670, which includes:

  • 5 days and 4 nights in a non-smoking room shared by two people with two beds,
  • Transportation via SUV or minivan, covering approximately 500 miles,
  • Organized hiking activities each day.

Exclusions include:

  • Travel to and from Belize City,
  • Meals, snacks, and beverages,
  • Tips, and any entrance or parking fees charged individually (car fees included).

The travel schedule aims for early starts each day, with departures at 7:00 or 7:30 AM to maximize daylight for activities.

The group will connect via a Zoom meeting and a WhatsApp group chat, so participants must provide their contact information for coordination. Regular messaging methods will not suffice.

Participants are encouraged to sign up and reach out with any inquiries.
